PM Modi commutes in Delhi Metro to attend Ambedkar memorial event

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi today travelled by Delhi Metro from Lok Kalyan Marg station to Vidhan Sabha station of Line-2 (Yellow Line) from 5:41 pm to 6:01 pm", a senior DMRC official said.

Surrounded by Special Protection Group commandos, Modi boarded the metro from the Lok Kalyan Marg station to make his way to Alipur Road for the opening of a memorial dedicated to BR Ambedkar, the architect of the constitution.

Amid attacks from the opposition, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will seek to reach out to Dalits and tribals by unveiling several pro-poor schemes in this Maoist-affected, low-literacy district in Chhattisgarh's Bastar on Dalit icon B.R. Ambedkar's 127th birth anniversary on Saturday.

26 Alipur Road, the home where Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar breathed his last, is also known as Mahaparinirvana Bhoomi.

Mr Modi had laid the foundation stone of the memorial on March 21, 2016. The museum at the memorial intends to create a detailed experience of Dr Ambedkar's life and his contribution to India through extensive use of static media, dynamic media, audio-visual content, and multimedia technologies. Iconic gates, Bodhhi tree, musical fountain and a meditation room are its other features.

During his over three-hour stay, Modi will also inaugurate a dialysis centre at the Bijapur Hospital and a Health and Wellness Centre, marking the launch of the Union government's ambitious health insurance programme Ayushman Bharat.

The Prime Minister's Office shared pictures of the new memorial through a series of tweets. "As a country, as a society we all are ashamed of it", the Prime Minister said.
