Polk substitute teacher arrested, accused of choking student

If you're a high school student, having a substitute teacher for the day typically means you'll be watching a boring video for the length of the class or doing some other kind of meaningless busywork, but students of substitute math teacher named Ryan Fish were treated to something entirely different.

A former substitute teacher was arrested for allegedly supervising a student "fight club" at a CT high school.

More than a dozen teachers filed paperwork this week to run for state House and Senate seats, many of them first-time candidates inspired by the teacher walkout that has shuttered schools across the state for a second consecutive week. Video also showed Fish giving directions to students engaged in the fight and moving a trash can out of the way so they could continue, according to police. They discovered that the one-on-one fights happened "under the direct supervision" of Fish and involved four other boys who were aged between 14 and 16.

When asked why he thought it was OK to let students fight in his class, Fish said: "I didn't think it was OK". However, upon learning just how much trouble he was in, he appeared remorseful.

"It is due to their voices that they were going to be here and what they were going to accomplish that helped move this piece of legislation, I really truly feel like that legislature wanted to get it done quickly so people wouldn't come - that didn't work", Bishop said.

"I'm disappointed in him", said 13-year-old Ruben.

"They have poked mama bear one time too many, and mama bear is ready to fight and keep fighting", said Cooper, as another teacher's hand rested on her shoulder as a sign of support.

But, hours later, OEA then made two specific demands, both of which seemed to be non-starters.

Observers say a successful ballot challenge could also jeopardize the recent raises awarded to public employees and school support staff as well as newly allocated classroom spending.

Kentucky police say they might limit the number of teachers inside the state Capitol as thousands are expected to protest the governor's vetoes of the state budget. "I'm immature, '" the police account said.

As soon as school officials found out about the fighting, Fish was sacked October tenth.

Joleen Royer, gifted and talented resource coordinator and a teacher at Sangre Ridge, said they are reminding lawmakers who have been uncooperative that it will be remembered on election day.

They noted that he works for Kelly Educational Staffing, not the district, but he will no longer be allowed to enter any Polk County school.

"Pennsylvania school district wants teachers to bring little clubs to a gunfight", said another man on Twitter. She said she was told he would only meet with people from his district.

"I am so sorry, because I'll be totally honest, I was trying to reach the kids".

Juhola on Friday called it "disturbing" that fights were allowed, and encouraged, in class. "However, I wanted to know what the teachers think about it".

Fish apologized outside court for his behavior after he was released following a written promise to return to court May 8.
