Prosecutor Assaults Trump Private Attorney over files

Prosecutor Assaults Trump Private Attorney over files

A lawyer for adult film actress Stormy Daniels argued in a court hearing on Friday that materials seized by federal investigators from US President Donald Trump's personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, may concern the porn star, who claims the president slept with her. Cohen, it seems, spent this glorious spring afternoon on a Manhattan sidewalk puffing a cigar with a bunch of his bros.

Cohen was photographed outside the Loews Regency Hotel on Park Avenue in New York City on Friday.

He has worked for the Trump Organization for more than a decade - and the president's legal team was "caught flat-footed by the NY raids", the Times reported. The judge, who didn't immediately rule, ordered him to appear at another court hearing Monday on the issue to help answer questions about his law practice.

The FBI seized recordings President Donald Trump's attorney made of his conversations with a lawyer representing two women who had alleged affairs with Trump, a source familiar with the matter tells CNN.

Trump, who in the last month has escalated his attacks on Robert Mueller's Russian Federation investigation, said it was a "disgrace" that the FBI "broke into" his lawyer's office.

"The attorney-client privilege could't at an identical time be utilised like a sword (and) like a shield", McKay advised Wood.

Cohen's lawyer cited attorney-client privilege in seeking to restrict access to "documents and communications related to numerous clients". If Cohen chooses to cooperate rather than fight a potential case against him, then his knowledge about the President's activities could create serious problems for Trump as special counsel Robert Mueller continues his investigation.

US Attorney Robert Khuzami, in a motion filed with a US District Court judge in NY, redacted the alleged criminal conduct for which Cohen is being investigated.

Earlier this week, Cohen's offices were raided by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents who seized files relating to Cohen's work, prompting Trump to blast the action as a "witch hunt". Cohen's lawyer is asking for the lawyers themselves to review the material or a "special master" to decide what is relevant to the case, and Hendon is concerned about a taint team or however the material is handled.

Harrison's assertion that Cohen's documents included privileged communications involving Cohen as both an attorney and a client did not, McKay argued, validate that claim.

Trump complained this week after the Cohen raid that the FBI's actions meant attorney-client privilege was "dead" and that he was the victim of a "TOTAL WITCH HUNT!"

Lawyer Michael Avenatti, who now represents Daniels, responded to the CNN report in a tweet on Friday.

"We want to ensure the documents do not disappear or that there's a control set that's maintained regardless of who reviews the documents", he added.

Stephen Ryan, an attorney for Cohen, said in a statement this week that the searches of Cohen's office and residences were unnecessary and that the materials seized are protected by the attorney-client privilege. Mueller's team recently told Trump's lawyers that he is a subject of the investigation, but not a criminal target.
