Sen. Kennedy to Zuckerberg: Your User Agreement Sucks. Fix it.

"There are some impurities in the Facebook punchbowl, and they gotta be fixed", Kennedy said.

He also delivered a pretty blunt assessment of Facebook's current user agreement, arguing it was created to "cover Facebook's rear end, it's not to inform your users about their rights".

"I am going to suggest to you that you go back home and you rewrite it and tell your $1,200-an hour lawyers, no disrespect, they're good, but tell them that you want it written in English and non-Swahili, so the average American can understand it".

"They should maintain individuals' privacy a lot better than they have been maintaining it, so that's a huge concern", said Cheredith Rhone, a Tulane student.

During the hearing, Senator Maggie Hassan asked Zuckerberg: "Will you commit to working with congress to develop ways of protecting constituent privacy and well-being, even if that results in some laws that require you to adjust your business model?"

John Thune, chairman of the US Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation committee, struck an adversarial tone in his opening remarks. His words offered contrition.

"I say this gently".

And she said users can control the allowed ads.

"There are going to be a whole bunch of bills introduced to regulate Facebook", Kennedy said.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has begun a two-day congressional inquisition declaring his company is facing an "arms race" with Russian Federation as foreign actors seek to interfere in elections.

"I do believe that there should be stricter government regulations that help protect the users' privacy", said Rhone.

He's slated to return Wednesday for a hearing before members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Questions touched on whether Facebook adequately informs users about the volume of personal information the company harvests and how that data is used to target advertising or is shared with developers.

"I will continue to monitor my settings, but as far as deleting my Facebook I don't think I'll do that", said Rhone.
