Sridevi posthumously awarded 'Best Actress' National Film Awards

Sridevi has been named best actress at the 65th National Film Awards, almost two months after her death.

Hindi film "Newton", a dark comedy on Indian democracy, was named the best Hindi film and a special mention went to its actor Pankaj Tripathi for his portrayal of a cynical CRPF officer.

Sridevi, who passed away suddenly in February, was given the best actress award posthumously for her final farewell performance as a mother fighting for justice for her raped daughter in Mom.

Riddhi Sen won the Best Actor for Bengali film "Nagarkirtan", which has even got Best Costume Designer, Best Make-Up Artist and a Special Jury Award.The Best Director title was bagged by Jayaraj for "Bhayanakam", which also won Best Screenplay (Adapted) and Best Cinematography. We don't know if we should laugh with joy or cry in her memory. We all are missing her now'. She also did Tamil film Puli during her second stint. As for the project, from the composition and orchestration, to penning the lyrics and managing the arrangements, it is special'. Some of the other prominent winners in various categories for this year National Film Awards included Assamese movie "Village Rockstars" in Best Feature Film category and "Baahubali - The Conclusion" in the Best Popular Film providing Wholesome Entertainment category. Someone mentioned our win in the afternoon and that's how I got to know. Choreographing Gori Tu Latth Maar was tough.

"I was stunned after 10 days and last night I thought it's time to make a film in India because the standard of regional cinema is world beating". This wouldn't have been possible without an incredible cast and crew, and the love and support from the locals of Chhattisgarh during the shoot. She wrote, "There is a gnawing hollowness in my chest that I know I'll have to learn how to live with". It's awesome to learn that the jury found my performance worthy of placing me in the Special Mention category.

Reacting to the announcement, Mom director Ravi Udayawar said, "She deserves it". Special Jury Award in the Non-Feature category was given to "A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings And Monday", directed by Prateek Vats and produced by Films Division. They recently released a statement to the media wherein they left a heartfelt message expressing their gratitude and celebrating Sridevi's hard work.
