Three Area School District Budgets Go Before Boards Of Education Tonight

The Troy City Board of Education named Chris Piper as Superintendent at a special meeting on Monday, April 16, 2018.

The board meeting is set for Thursday at 6:30 the secondary center media room, and the press conference set for 4:15 p.m. Wednesday in the same location. "Having a school resource officer in the buildings has a number of benefits".

School Board member Jill Turgeon (Blue Ridge) said what has happened in Monroe's transition has shined a light on the need for better communication between administrators in the central office and teachers.

School enrollment is projected to increase slightly.

Piper is now the superintendent of Triad Local Schoot District in North Lewisburg, Ohio, and has served there for the past four years.

LISD has advocated at the state level for a better funding system and against school vouchers and high-stakes testing. The original plan was to reduce 23 programs from two-year programs to one-year programs.

Marchese said that an expenditure in the range of $116 million not only provides for larger classrooms, on average, but it also opens up the common spaces-the gymnasium, auditorium, cafeteria, and library-to ensure that those spaces are large enough to accommodate some growth in enrollment.

"Just because we have a public meeting, I feel like we haven't necessarily engaged with the public", said trustee Ryan Land.

"They also resolved to review appropriate compensation for employees, receive training around the obligations of a board to avoid impermissible employment discrimination, receive implicit bias training, and support measures in place throughout the District which are created to preclude discrimination from occurring", Obeng said.

In December, parents objected to a proposal that would have had special education students start middle school one year early. "Trostle continued", In collaboration with the input we received from our community participants, teachers, staff, and Administrative team, we are confident Chris's passion for learning and his dedication to maximizing every student's success will serve our district well.

The spending plan calls for a tax levy increase of 2.2 percent.

"On behalf of the Troy City Board of Education, I am excited to welcome Mr. Piper as the next superintendent of the Troy City Schools", board president Doug Trostle stated.

"The other thing that is great about this program it does connect us with the local farmers around the surrounding area and vendors to get in fresh produce local here in Michigan", Kooyers said.

He has not returned multiple requests for comment, and the district has declined to comment.

Although a lengthy investigation into possible racial discrimination by the Burlington School Board determined there was no evidence of bias, questions remain about discussions between officials that led to the complaint. She is touring the space with them so she can log and address concerns, she added.
