Trump vows farmers will emerge from trade dispute 'better off'

Trump vows farmers will emerge from trade dispute 'better off'

North Korea's government has communicated with the United States to say that leader Kim Jong Un is ready to discuss his nuclear weapons program with President Donald Trump, officials said Sunday, increasing the likelihood that the unprecedented summit will actually occur.

China announced $50 billion in retaliatory tariffs on products like soybeans, pork, corn, wheat and beef. "But I tell you, our farmers are great patriots". Are government employees loyal to the president or are they loyal to our country? They've said so. We've said so.

With the national debt now more than $21 trillion, and rising at more than $1.5 trillion per fiscal year, the Trump "tax reform" will reduce revenue and make things worse. "Hopefully it will be a relationship that's much different than it's been for many, many years". Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue on Monday declined to give details in a speech to a rural lobbying group in Washington.

The president did not say how he and his administration would "make it up" to farmers who take a major economic hit from tariffs on their crops, but he did imply that former President Barack Obama was to blame for their current plight.

One possible option, according to Steve Censky, deputy secretary of the USDA, could be using the department's authority under the Commodity Credit Corp., a federal entity that funds farm subsidies, to buy surplus USA crops.

The president said Monday that his administration will "probably" reach a deal with Beijing in negotiations before any tariffs are imposed.

"This should have been done by other presidents and they've decided they didn't do it", Trump said.

Meanwhile, North Korea's foreign minister held rare talks with his Russian counterpart in Moscow yesterday.
