Unnao rape: CBI gets 7 day custody of accused lawmker

The minor girl had alleged that she was raped by Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the BJP legislator from Unnao, and his brother previous year, but the police refused to take any action against them.

The Unnao rape survivor recorded her statement under Section 164 of Code of Criminal Procedure (CRPC) before the special CBI court on Monday, ANI reported. The uncle's statement comes a day after Sengar was taken into seven-day police custody after a 17-hour interrogation session. The test was carried out at the Lohia hospital here. The action came barely hours the Allahabad High Court ordered the probe agency to arrest Sengar, stating that he was influencing the "law-and-order machinery".

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday arrested two persons who allegedly tried to bribe a Customs officer in Mumbai in a bid to recover seized goods worth crores.

The bench of Chief Justice D.B. Bhosale and Justice Suneet Kumar asked the agency to furnish on May 2 a report on the progress of its probe. Sashi is accused of taking the victim to Sengar after which the latter raped her.

After a massive public outrage over the inaction of the UP police, the case was handed over to the CBI on April 12.

On Thursday, the Yogi Adityanath government had transferred the case to the CBI.

The second pertains to rioting and the alleged killing of the victim's father in judicial custody in Lucknow. While framing charges against the three accused on August 1, 2017, investigating officer in his charge-sheet relied upon girl's statement before magistrate and medical examination report that confirmed signs of sexual violence on girl's body.

Earlier previous year in June, she had recorded a statement before the magistrate in which she did not charge the MLA with the rape.

The CBI has registered a case on a complaint from an Assistant Commissioner, Customs (Marine and Preventive) in Mumbai regarding the bribe offered.
