Wave of Greitens case pretrial publicity prompts partial gag order

Wave of Greitens case pretrial publicity prompts partial gag order

"Eric Greitens is on a conservative mission for Missouri and he won't stop until the mission is complete", the ad says.

Greitens' attorneys claimed in a Sunday court filing that the woman testified that she may have only dreamed up or imagined the core allegation of the felony charge: that in 2015, the governor took a nonconsensual photograph of her after tying her up and partially undressing her, with the intent to transmit it.

Prosecutors claimed the defense violated an order from the judge last month by releasing excerpts of testimony from recent depositions of an investigator and key witnesses.

"If I were the prosecutor here, I would dismiss this case", said Edward Dowd, an attorney representing Governor Eric Greitens in his criminal trial in May. Greitens admitted an affair to Fox 2, but denied blackmail.

Burlison's order bars all parties, their lawyers and witnesses from making public statements about "the identity of witnesses and their expected testimony, references to evidence or any personal belief about the defendant's guilt or innocence".

Dowd said he filed a motion Sunday to compel Kim Gardner, the St. Louis Circuit Attorney to provide them with any evidence that would benefit Governor Greitens' defense. The ruling also will require the judge to sign off on certain court filings before they're made public.

The back and forth in the case accelerated after the woman was questioned for more than eight hours Friday in a deposition. He said, "Well they're still going to get information because all the documents are still going to be filed publicly except for attachments".

"I haven't talked about it because I don't know if it's because I'm remembering it through a dream or I - I'm not sure, but yes, I feel like I saw it after that happened", she responded, according to the court filing.

Scott Simpson, an attorney for "K.S." argued that the Greitens team wants to discredit his client before she testifies at his trial that begins May 14. The filing about the woman's dream testimony "was filed for the headlines and for the objective of discrediting my client", he said. He said Greitens told the woman several times that he had a photo, and he threatened to use it if she spoke of the affair.
