ABC Doesn't Have 'Any Plans' to End Agents of SHIELD Next Season

S.H.I.E.L.D. was among the shows considered on the bubble until Monday's renewal announcement confirmed that Coulson (Clark Gregg) and company would, indeed, be back for another season - much to the delight of anxious fans. ABC announced on Tuesday that the show will air as a summer 2019 series for its upcoming season.

ABC has picked up "Agents of SHIELD" for a sixth season in 2018-19 - emphasis on the "19" part.

While it's possible the characters could simply disappear at the end of Friday's episode, it has become known Season 6 won't be airing until well after Captain Marvel and The Avengers 4.

Was this move purely made for scheduling purposes or does it tie into the events of "Avengers: Infinity War?".

What do you think about Agents of SHIELD season 6 premiering in the summer?

According to TVLine, the series will return in summer 2019, after the release of Marvel Studios' untitled fourth Avengers movie on May 3.

Even though fans might have to wait longer and will get fewer episodes, they can rest easy knowing that Season 6 will just be a continuation of S.H.I.E.L.D. "We continue to be very excited with what they're doing with SHIELD", Dungey had said at the time. (Avengers 4 - the follow-up to Avengers: Infinity War, the end of which would seem to have significant implications for the characters on TV's S.H.I.E.L.D. - hits theaters next May.) "Whatever they [at Marvel Studios] have planned, I can not say", she hedged. The finale to season five airs this Friday, May 18th, at 9PM.
