Okala said that he personally saw the provisional list as a good list "with lots of hope in it".

The 25-year old was involved in the goal against Zambia that sealed Nigeria's qualification for the World Cup, and barring any unforseen circumstance, should make the final 23-man squad to Russian Federation.

On the new entrants and players from the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) in the list; Amaraizu said the number of NPFL players showed that the Nigerian leagues had grown.

"I was overwhelmed with joy when I heard that Nwankwo, made the list".

"I pray he joins other great and wonderful players in the team to make Nigerians proud, " he added.

Midfielder John Obi Mikel was named captain.

On the goalkeeping front, coach Gernot Rohr has named four goalkeepers, Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Francis Uzoho, Daniel Akpeyi and Dele AJiboye.

The Defenders are Leon Balogun, William Troost-Ekong, Kenneth Omeruo, Brian Idowu, Elderson Echejile, Shehu Abdulahi, Ola Aina, Tyrone Ebuehi, Stephen Eze and Chidozie Awaziem.

The 30-man provisional list cntains regular suspects such as Mikel Obi, Victor Moses, Ogenyi Onazi and so on, but the surprise of the pack is the inclusion of Junior Lokosa, Kano Pillars striker.

Continuous calls positioned the 35-year-old Lille's goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama, in the shortlist for the World Cup, however, Rohr, arguing that he is more interested in building for the future than retracting his footsteps, chose to omit him.
