Bloodstained: Curse of The Moon Announced

Bloodstained: Curse of The Moon Announced

While Konami is making a Castlevania for mobile, one of the company's former producers is resurrecting the spirit of the Dracula-killing franchise in a new 8-bit-style game.

Koji Igarashi, a Japanese developer who is well-known for his work on the Castlevania series and is now developing Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, talked about the upcoming spin-off in an official trailer.

This game is an obvious throwback to the early Castlevania games, and was actually developed thanks to a stretch goal from Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night's Kickstarter campaign. Below you can check out some footage for Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon.

Featuring aesthetics ripped straight out of the NES era, Curse of the Moon stars Zangetsu, a sword-wielding demon killer.

We get to see the four main characters in action, Miriam, Zangetsu, Alfred, and Gebel, in environments that definitely feel familiar.

In addition to its reveal, Inti Creates announced that the game will be released on May 24th for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo 3DS, PC (via Steam), and even the good ol' PlayStation Vita. For those backers, those codes should soon be available via the official home page or a Kickstarter update, so make sure to check in.

Igarashi added that he was able to play the spin-off himself and "had a great deal of fun with it".

Fans are obviously not happy about this turn of events, and have been expressing their displeasure on the comment threads, forum boards, and backer sections for Bloodstained, but so far it doesn't sound like Artplay or Inti Creates will be budging.
