Farrah Fawcett's son Redmond O'Neal arrested for robbing store

There was no information on whether O'Neal's father reached out to him following the arrest.

Redmond O'Neal, the son of Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O'Neal, was arrested Tuesday around 2:30 a.m.in Los Angeles on suspicion of robbing a convenience store, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed to USA TODAY. "The clerk, who was in fear for his life, gave him the money". "The suspect fled store on foot..."

"O'Neal was detained and identified as suspect from the robbery", the spokesperson continued.

O'Neal was being held without bail at the Inmate Reception Center in downtown Los Angeles because he was on probation at the time of his arrest, according to sheriff's records. Shortly afterward, LAPD officers arrested O'Neal, who fit the robber's description and was in possession of a knife like the one used.

Three years ago, O'Neal's half-sister Tatum (daughter of Joanna Moore) revealed that she was extremely anxious for him. He was released from prison for a brief moment to attend Fawcett's funeral.

Redmond O'Neal was charged with two counts of possessing a controlled substance - for heroin and methamphetamine - following his arrest on Tuesday for allegedly robbing a convenience store.

He is being held without bail at LA's Twin Towers Jail and was scheduled to be arraigned in Los Angeles County Superior Court Thursday. On the day that his mother died from cancer in June 2009, O'Neal was in jail and was attending a court hearing.

O'Neal has struggled with drug addiction since he was a teenager.

O'Neal admitted in September 2011 that he violated his probation by using drugs while in a live-in drug rehabilitation program that he has eventually completed.

His half-sister, actress Tatum O'Neal, 54, addressed his demons in a 2015 interview with People magazine, where she revealed she was running out of hope. "He's got addiction problems so bad that it breaks my heart. From what I've seen, there is no way he's going to survive".
