Federation Internationale de Football Association proposes mini-Cup every 2 years

Federation Internationale de Football Association proposes mini-Cup every 2 years

During a press conference on Monday, the president spoke about the support that he hopes to have from all African nations and nations throughout the world.

US President Donald Trump's public demand for US World Cup bid could actually work against US interest. He also asked why they should be supporting countries when those countries don't support them, including at the UN.

The north African country's bid is now rivaled by a joint one from the United States, Mexico and Canada. Infantino had suggested that the new tournament would take place every October and/or November of every odd year starting from 2021. Morocco is the other country pushing for the tournament.

US last host the tournament in 1994 where Brazil emerged victor after beating Italy on penalties after the full regulation period had ended goalless. The United States is joining Mexico and Canada in proposing a three-country host for the 2026 event.

Infantino's letter added that the funding would also allow Federation Internationale de Football Association to expand the Club World Cup from an annual seven-team tournament into a quadrennial event for 24 participants.

The FIFA President then called an emergency meeting of the Bureau of the Council - comprised of Infantino and the five Confederation heads - after world football's governing body received the investment offer.

The statement urged European soccer's governing body UEFA to ally with the World League Forum, the European Clubs Association and FIFPro (the worldwide players union), to "firmly oppose and together stop this unilateral initiative from FIFA and the process which lacks of transparency and a proper consultation with the stakeholders". France was among the first, explaining that the continent had only had one World Cup.

"We've had problems in the past and the NFF has already worked out a payment mode for the team, but this money will help put everything into shape", he told BBC Sport.
