Former Man Utd manager Moyes leaves West Ham

David Moyes has left West Ham after the club decided against extending his contract.

Former Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini, now with Hebei China Fortune, outgoing PSG coach Unai Emery and Newcastle's Benitez - again - have also been linked with the role.

Reports this week said West Ham had held "productive" talks with Paulo Fonseca, the manager of Shakhtar Donetsk, while Sullivan remains a long-term admirer of Newcastle's Rafael Benitez. The move comes after Sam Allardyce, a former West Ham manager, was also sacked by Everton.

Moyes departed just hours after Sunday's season-closing win over Everton when his contract ended.

Moyes's assistants Alan Irvine, Stuart Pearce and Billy McKinlay have also left the London Stadium. He's got the results, and ever since he got there he's been firefighting, so surely he deserved a chance to take the club forward?'

No two people amongst the first-team have done more when it comes to re-establishing Newcastle back at the highest level than Benitez and Lascelles, so losing either would be a huge blow - but the idea of losing both to a club that finished below them in the top flight this year should be something that inspires Ashley into action.

"I've enjoyed David Moyes, I've enjoyed his company, I've enjoyed working with him, he's a proper professional - his record speaks for himself", Gold told Sky Sports.

Could Manuel Pellegrini be returning to the Premier League?

On Tuesday fellow co-chairman David Gold had claimed he wanted Moyes to stay but in a statement on Wednesday Sullivan said the club had chose to "move in a different direction".

A statement on West Ham's website confirming Moyes's departure said the club wanted to take a "different direction".

'We are already taking steps to identify and recruit the manager we believe can take the club into an exciting future for our loyal supporters within the next 10 days, ' Sullivan said after announcing the end of Moyes's brief tenure.
