Google's YouTube Music and YouTube Premium are now official

Google's YouTube Music and YouTube Premium are now official

Google is fully aware of Spotify and Apple Music's meteoric rise as the preferred on-demand music streaming service.

After a piecemeal and spluttering attempted rollout, YouTube Red is being scrapped in favour of two new subscribption services.

YouTube Music will borrow the Spotify model and offer a free, ad-supported tier as well as a premium version.

YouTube will release the service from May 22 in America, Australia and New Zealand and will "expand more broadly" in the coming weeks.

The advantage of YouTube Music, according to Google, is that the new music service will combine all the official versions of the songs with access to "thousands" - related playlists, remixes, covers, live versions and of course, music videos.

"YouTube Premium unlocks the full YouTube Music experience: ad-free music, background listening, and downloads".

Now Google is hoping the latest changes to its various subscription services will finally start to gain traction among music fans and help it to be a real player in the paid-for music-streaming space.

YouTube does not disclose how many people pay for YouTube Red, its premium service. Google Assistant reportedly plays a larger role in the app's discovery abilities, while music and playlist recommendations will be made based on your location.

YouTube Music Is Now "Reimagined", "Revamped"! The app is a subsidiary of YouTube app for music and music videos.

Next, what will happen to Google Play Music?

Now listen to your favorite music artist, watch Beyonce's Livestream or discover the new music, it's all here, at a single place, YouTube Music.

In an interview at Recode's Code Media conference, YouTube chief executive Susan Wojcicki offered clues as to why the company chose to split its premium content and rebrand its premium service. It will also allow background play and downloads of videos available across YouTube's huge library. YouTube Originals library will get enlarged with comedies, dramas, reality series and action-adventure shows from the U.K., Germany, France, Mexico, and more. The YouTube Red will be available at a price of $11.99 per month for the new users. This will eventually replace Play Music, but the pricing will remain at $10 a month. Do it now at a reduced price. The YouTube premium membership will also give access to the revamped YouTube Music's premium tier.
