Oscar-nominated filmmaker Amy Berg ("Deliver Us From Evil", "West of Memphis") will direct the project, which has been in production since 2015 and which delves into the 1999 abduction and slaying of 18-year-old Hae Min Lee.

The enthralling podcast debuted to an instantly obsessed audience and follows producer and presenter, Sarah Koenig's re-investigation of the long cold case of a high-school teen, Hae Min Lee and the ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed convicted of her murder on apparently thin evidence.

We're also going to get an in-depth look at the original police investigation and the present day situation as Adnan Syed awaits a new trial.

Since Serial aired, the show's producers have gone on to make a second series focusing on a separate story involving the USA military and a separate single-story podcast called S-Town.

ADNAN Syed made headlines not exclusively due to his ex-girlfriend's loss of life however after he grew to become the topic of a well-liked United States podcast.

After a lukewarmly received season two, Serial has yet to produce a third season.

The state immediately appealed Judge Welch's decision, and among other things cited testimony from two of McClain's classmates that alleged that McClain had said she would lie to help Syed. He is now in jail awaiting retrial.

Adnan, who is now in his late 30s, found himself back in the headlines in March, having been granted a new trial. But Debbie doesn't believe that McClain's memory is accurate.

What happens next depends on how the Maryland Court of Appeals responds to the prosecution.


Adnan Syed is about to be tried - again - in the court of public opinion. Now a lawyer, Chaudry said she remains optimistic that by the end of 2018, Syed might walk free. He has maintained his innocence through the process.
