HMD promises Android P updates for all Nokia smartphones

HMD promises Android P updates for all Nokia smartphones

During an event in Moscow today, HMD Global launched devices for the lower-end of its portfolio that focuses on providing worldwide audiences with pure Android and future updates.

The Nokia 3.1 comes in three colour variants.

HMD has been teasing new stuff the past few months.

All three phones are ready for Android P. Nokia 5.1 and Nokia 3.1 will receive three years of monthly security patches and two years of OS updates, as guaranteed in the Android One programme. And everyone jumped on the smartphone because of the Nostalgia factor.

The phone is backed by a 2,970 mAh battery, along with a 3.5 mm audio jack, FM radio and the expected Wi-Fi and Bluetooth goodies. It sports a 5.5-inch FHD+ display with an 18:9 display and 443 ppi pixel density.

There are both 2GB of RAM and 3GB of RAM versions of this phone, so we would likely lean toward buying the more expensive yet more powerful handset with 3GB inside. Sarvikas is proud to say, "With this range, we deliver larger screens, enhanced performance across our range with processor upgrades offering up to 50% higher performance while maintaining the ideal balance with power consumption and stunning designs - all in a segment where consumers often need to compromise." . The design of the smartphone remains unchanged.

Moving up is the new Nokia 3.1.

Like the Nokia 2.1, the 3.1 also sticks with Micro USB for charging, although that's unsurprising given the target market. A microSD card slot helps in expanding the storage. It also runs the latest version of Android Oreo out of the box.

The new Nokia 2 seems like an incremental update at first glance, but there are some significant changes and improvements - most notably, the OS. The device comes in Blue/Copper, Black/Chrome, and White/Iron options. The 3.1 model is powered by an octa-core MediaTek 6750 chipset alongside a 13MP camera, up to 3GB of memory and 32GB of internal storage, and NFC.

The Nokia 5.1 has a 3000mAh battery, a USB-C port, and a single speaker.

Of the three devices announced yesterday, the Nokia 5.1 is the most premium offering. The first thing you'll notice is that the phone's Full HD display is larger and that the fingerprint sensor has been moved to the rear of the phone. The smartphone comes with a taller screen with 5.2-inch IPS display with a resolution of 720 pixels along with 18:9 aspect ratio. The display is also protected by a 2.5D Gorilla Glass on top. Keeping up with that, the Nokia 5.1 is a successor to the Nokia 5. HMD says the phone's MediaTek Helio P18 processor offers 40% faster performance than last year's Snapdragon 430 chip from Qualcomm. This will be offered in a choice of 2GB and 3GB of RAM along with 16GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 128GB.
