Jimmy Kimmel says 'mental health issues' are behind Roseanne Barr's racist comments

Jimmy Kimmel says 'mental health issues' are behind Roseanne Barr's racist comments

Those who have been critical of ABC's decision include US President Donald Trump.

United States comedian Roseanne Barr said she was exhausted of "being attacked and belittled" and blamed sleep aid Ambien for her tweet that compared a black former Obama administration official to an ape, a racist remark that sparked a wave of outrage. The president tweeted that Disney CEO Bob Iger should apologize to Trump for past comments about him made on ABC because Iger had apologized to Valerie Jarrett, the subject of Roseanne Barr's racist tweet.

She was the subject of a now-deleted tweet penned by comedian Roseanne Barr, who said Ms Jarrett was the offspring of the Muslim Brotherhood and the Planet of the Apes.

"Don't feel sorry for me, guys!", Barr said in a tweet on Tuesday. "Please take a breath and remember that mental health issues are real".

"While all pharmaceutical treatments have side effects, racism is not a known side effect of any Sanofi medication".

She revealed that, after seeing Barr's tweets, she'd called her manager to quit Roseanne, which was exactly when she discovered that the series had already been canceled by the network.

Roseanne not only responded to her castmates but retweeted many supportive tweets from the twittersphere, including that from the President of the United States, who Tweeted in response to ABC's actions.

In the time it took to compose a 53-character tweet, Roseanne Barr went from a hero that ABC was banking upon to unemployed. - I just want to apologise to the hundreds of people, and wonderful writers (all liberal) and talented actors who lost their jobs on my show due to my stupid tweet.

Despite vowing that she was leaving Twitter, Barr returned to the platform with comments and other apologies.

Barr was resoundingly condemned Tuesday, including from many who helped make her show successful.

Barr also blamed her offending tweet on a popular sleeping pill.

He noted that Robert Iger, chief executive of ABC parent Walt Disney Co., called Jarrett to tell her that ABC did not tolerate Barr's comments.

The White House has accused the entertainment industry of "hypocrisy" over its condemnation of Roseanne Barr following a racist tweet.

"You throw me under the bus. nice!" she said in a tweet directed at Fishman.

She also retweeted several messages complaining that ABC's decision was political and wondering why they hadn't axed performers who had said bad things about Donald Trump. The revival had been renewed for a second season, which would've debuted on ABC this fall.
