Kristen Stewart Defies Cannes' Strict Red Carpet Policy

She came, posed, kicked off her Christian Louboutin heels and made a political statement at the Cannes Film Festival.

Stewart, a self-confessed fashion junkie, revealed that her thoughts are nothing against heels either. The BBC has contacted the Cannes Film Festival for a comment.

She told the Hollywood Reporter: 'There's definitely a distinct dress code. Stewart has been vocal about the Cannes shoe policy in the past. "I get the black-tie thing but you should be able to do either version-flats or heels". "I feel like you can't ask that anymore, but it's still a given", said Stewart.

Stewart later addressed the saga while talking to The Hollywood Reporter, saying, "If you're not asking guys to wear heels and a dress, you cannot ask me either".

Since Heelgate in 2015, in which a producer with a foot injury said a Palais guard wouldn't let her in to a screening because of insufficiently formal footwear, the festival has taken pains to point out that there is no requirement to wear high heels.

The ban caused stars to speak out against the guidelines, with British actress Emily Blunt saying the alleged ban was "very disappointing".

After Kristen passed the first bank of photographers at the red carpet, she took off the heels and made her way into the premiere with the shoes in her hands.
