The Poor People's Campaign protesters said they wanted to highlight the way veterans, children, women, teachers and others are being treated. At some point, several of the protesters moved out into the roadway, blocking some lanes of traffic.

Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook and members of the CPD's Command Staff met with protest organizers last week to discuss their plans. Hundreds of people were arrested, including 350.org's Executive Director May Boeve. "People across the country are standing up against the lie of scarcity".

"Both parties have to be challenged - one for what it does and one for what it doesn't do". Theoharis is co-director of the Kairos Center for Religions, Rights, and Social Justice in NY. Coordinated events occurred at many state capitols across the country.

- A rally across from the North Carolina Legislative Building ended Monday afternoon with almost 50 demonstrators being cited by police for protesting in the middle of the street.

The Florida Poor People's Campaign is fighting for exactly what the name details, poor people, while puting emphasis on the groups more statistically inclined to live in poverty. According to the campaign, protesters will spend the next 40 days engaged in nonviolent action, including the mobilization of voters and holding teach-ins. It is to feature Marian Wright Edelman, president of the Children's Defence Fund and a part of the 1968 campaign.
