Manuel Pellegrini: West Ham want to speak to former Manchester City manager

West Ham fans are fuming on social media as a reliable journalist revealed that the Hammers hunt to replace David Moyes as the club's manager had "escalated" with Claudio Ranieri the latest name in the frame.

West Ham have this evening release a statement on their managerial situation, claiming they are "extremely confident of appointing a high-calibre" boss "within the next seven days".

"I do (like the idea of Pellegrini), if you can get him", he added.

Paulo Fonseca is set to reject the chance to become West Ham's new manager by signing a new deal at Shakhtar Donetsk, sources close to the Portuguese have told ESPN FC.

If reports are to be believed he's now on the cusp of returning to the Premier League with West Ham, who finished their most recent campaign in 13th.

"Good club, strong fans, good stadium but they're not going to be banging on the door of the top end of the Premier League and certainly not the biggest spenders of the Premier League".

"Having taken stock of the situation and reflected now the campaign is complete", West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan said, "we feel that it is right to move in a different direction".

The former Real Madrid manager also guided City to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2016, the only time the club has reached that stage in their history. "We are preparing to appoint a manager who has a proven record of success at the highest level of the game".
