Newcastle owner Mike Ashley pledges 'every penny generated' to Rafa Benitez

If this is Antonio Conte's final Premier League game as Chelsea manager there will be a collective shrugging of shoulders in west London, but the prospect of Rafa Benitez leaving Newcastle United sends a shudder of fear across Tyneside.

"For me, the key has been the unity, togetherness between fans, players, staff, everyone, and the work-rate of this group of players".

Chelsea completely capitulate against Newcastle and are faced with numerous questions heading into the summer.

"On many occasions throughout the season, they have been described as a Championship side, which I personally consider to be derogatory".

Benitez said: "If we want to achieve something, we have to understand the way to do that".

For a club however that won their much-desired undecima in the previous year, the Madridistas would not endure a perhaps slight dip in results for a longer-term gain. At the beginning, we were thinking that the target was to stay up, and I can read about a lot of managers now saying, "Great because we are safe", but we were safe five games before, so that is awesome.

"The bad run we had at the end was a pity, so we needed to try to do something to change our luck".

"It was a flawless day for the fans and the players".

A self-titled big club paradoxically without a major trophy since 1969, it is the natural next step for Benitez to take.

"It's not enough just to finish 10th with four or five teams around you", said Benitez.

"What I would like is to be sure that the team is able to compete to finish above tenth".

"That means having the right quality, the right mentality and the right level through the whole season, not just for some performances".

Speculation surrounding Benitez's future has been rife, with a year remaining on his contract but guarantees over funds available still not made, and the Spaniard says he is hopeful they can make a breakthrough. All these things to enable you to attract players, all these things can make a difference. The potential is there.
