No Man's Sky Launching On July 24th For Xbox One, Includes Multiplayer

It's set to roll out on July 24, which will also mark the game's first release on Xbox One.

Previously, players in the game were not even able to see each other, let alone interact, though last year's Atlas Rises update rectified that by having each spacefarer represented by a unusual, glowing orb. Just by adding proper multiplayer, the universe should immediately feel less empty, and that's without taking into consideration the improvements that have been made to the overall content since launch. Sean Murray from developer Hello Games confirmed the rumored feature on today's episode of Inside Xbox after saying when the game would hit Microsoft's console. "I'm excited for new players to be able to play such an expanded game from the start".

He calls it a "really different experience" from the main game, comparing it to Star Trek or Battlestar Galactica, and says that the team have been playtesting it for the last six months. Once you've done all that, though, your Discord friends will be able to see what you're playing on Xbox Live, which is pretty neat. You'll be able to build bases together, engage in space battles together, and race exocraft across alien terrain, creating tracks that can be shared online.

The game has had limited co-op options since previous year, but this will be the first time you can actually fly and fight alongside other players without limitations.

Murray notes that he has learned that he prefers making games than talking about them, which makes sense since he was at the heart of the sweeping controversy around the game at launch. Lastly, the May update changes the Xbox Accessories App to "make it easier to navigate, and to look and feel more consistent with the rest of the Xbox One dashboard".

The No Man's Sky portion of Inside XBox begins at the 55:30 mark.
