Ohtani homers as Angels end Twins' run

Ohtani homers as Angels end Twins' run

Neither had the rest of the Angels, who are putting big offensive numbers nearly every night lately.

Eddie Rosario homered twice, Bobby Wilson hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the ninth inning, and the Twins rallied for a 5-4 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night.

Los Angeles has scored at least five runs in seven of its last eight games, and almost everybody in a halo cap had a big hit in the opener of an 11-game homestand.

Ohtani made his first start as a designated hitter since last Friday.

Max Kepler followed with a game-tying blast to right off left-hander Jose Alvarez; that came one pitch after taking a fastball off the knuckles of his left hand. Just yikes. Skaggs has allowed just four runs in his last 17.2 innings and all three of those games came against loaded offensive clubs, so his frightful numbers at home are easy to overlook based on his current form. Buxton, who was hitting just.195/.233/.244 before landing on the shelf, will face right-hander Garrett Richards in his first game back. He struck out four and walked none while making 94 pitches. "It's disappointing to have the whole outing kind of tarnished".

His two solo home runs gave him six homers in 10 games in May. Pujols and Ohtani followed with back-to-back doubles for a 4-0 lead.

Berrios (4-3) hung a pair of curveballs and saw his struggles expand to runs allowed in 12 of 16 innings since leaving Puerto Rico.

Pujols was honored briefly in the first inning for getting his 3,000th hit last Friday in Seattle.

"That wasn't the case early on, as the Angels capitalized on a second chance in the third inning to take the lead". He also flawlessly turned a key 3-6-3 double play at first base to end the seventh.

Tropeano also threw an inning of scoreless relief in Minnesota late in the 2015 season. The veteran reliever had two strikeouts.

The 24-year-old originally landed on the disabled list back on April 18 with migraines, but suffered a hairline fracture in his toe while on a minor-league rehab assignment which ultimately extended his absence.

The Angels are expected to counter with right-hander Nick Tropeano, who is expected to come off of the disabled list on Saturday. Trout is 4 for 11 against him, including a double, HR, three RBIs and two walks.

"We definitely felt that Justin had enough to get through the ninth, but, unfortunately, it didn't work", Angels manager Mike Scioscia said.
