Students praised after shooting incident

Thankfully, perhaps miraculously, no one was killed.

The shooting incident began near the school's west gymnasium about 8 a.m. Wednesday, according to officials speaking at a late-morning news conference.

Shots were fired. Two heroes emerged. The quick, fearless actions of Dixon Police Department school resource officer Mark Dallas stopped the gunman and saved many lives. "Because of his heroic actions, countless lives were saved".

The suspect was transported for medical treatment for non-life threatening injuries, authorities said.

"Our hearts are heavy with the news of another school shooting".

Yet, Dixon will not be remembered along with Parkland, Sandy Hook and Columbine.

A map shows where Dixon High School is located in relation to Chicago. "Things could have gone much worse". The officer returned fire, shooting the suspect.

"He's a community guy, and he's a family guy, and thank god he's the one that's in that school working", she said. "Thank God he didn't kill anyone else".

"Always all the time they would always get into arguments or whatever and we live right there so we could always hear what was going on", says Bell. "I think everyone did an unbelievable job of following directions and doing what they had to do". They say students were rehearsing for a graduation ceremony at the time.

There are questions that must still be answered. The motive for the shooting has not yet been given by the police and they also declined to comment on why Milby brought a gun to the school. How was he able to get into the school easily? Speaking to NBC Chicago, Brandon Stehl, a former student at Dixon High School, said that he used to be friends with Milby. Sauk Valley Media received some conflicting information Wednesday. "Bless the school resource officer, teachers, administration and students in Dixon". "We didn't really know what was going on".

"The decisive actions taken by officer Mark Dallas today prevented what could have been a tragedy on a massive scale at Dixon High School".

Not a single person at Dixon High School was hurt on Wednesday's shooting incident.

"I extend my deep gratitude to @DixonPolice, & the Officer on-site, for their swift action & for keeping our students & teachers safe, ' Kinzinger tweeted". For that, we're grateful.

And because all were prepared and did what needed to be done, everyone who walked into Dixon High School on Wednesday is alive today.
