Barr, 65, later tweeted that her mention of taking Ambien was "an explanation" and "not an excuse".

Less than 24 hours after Roseanne Barr lost her eponymous show on ABC over a racist tweet about a former Obama administration official, the comedienne tweeted - then deleted - that she wrote the post under the influence of the popular prescription sleeping pill Ambien.

"I'm fine", Jarrett said, after saying she wanted to make the incident, which dominated the news on Tuesday, "a teaching moment" instead of being about her.

Sanofi, the pharmaceutical company that produces Ambien, has since responded to Barr's claims, stating that "racism is not a known side effect of any Sanofi medication". "It just shocked me a bit", she wrote. "I'm exhausted of being attacked & belittled more than other comedians who have said worse". I will handle my sadness the way I want to. "Nice!" Sara tweeted that she was "disappointed" in her onscreen mom and blasted Roseanne's comments as "abhorrent".

She urged people not to defend her and said of her Jarrett tweet that she was "ambien tweeting" at 2 a.m.

"First of all, I think we have to turn it into a teaching moment", she said. Some are holding out hope that the show will be picked up by another network, the mass exodus of its stars and writers does not bode well. "I believe our show strived to embrace different backgrounds and opinions, through open dialogue", he wrote.

"Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have made a decision to cancel her show", Dungey told Fox News.

CNN's Brian Stelter reviewed how Barr has been "posting in a manic way" and noted her now-deleted tweet talking about how "unforgivable" her tweet was and how she "was ambien tweeting".

- Will President Trump comment at all?

Barr also continued to tweet about George Soros, a liberal donor who has been painted as the villain in many right-wing conspiracy theories. In addition to ABC canceling the show, the Paramount Network, Hulu, CMT, TV Land and the digital platform Laff have also reportedly pulled reruns of the program.

One message she re-tweeted on Wednesday falsely accused the Hungary-born Jewish billionaire of collaborating with the Nazis. Many conservative commentators - and the president himself - attributed at least some of that success to the lead character's backing of Trump.
