Arsenal Emerge As Surprise Contenders To Sign Marouane Fellaini

According to reports in Metro, Arsenal have suddenly emerged as surprise contenders to sign Marouane Fellaini.

Reports in France suggest that Arsenal are scheduled to meet with Marouane Fellaini this week over a potential free transfer.

The Belgian international's representatives are all set to meet Arsenal officials to discuss a proposed switch this summer, despite an offer from his current employers which it seems he is unlikely to sign.

Fellaini's future has been a hot topic of discussion among United fans as we are a little thin in central midfield with Michael Carrick retiring at the end of last season.

Fellaini is demanding an improvement on his £80,000-a-week salary at United has rejected the offer of a new one-year deal.

The Belgium global is out of contract after five years at Old Trafford and free to negotiate with interested clubs.

Fellaini has been selected in Belgium's World Cup squad and the Red Devils had hoped he would sign his extension before he travelled to Russian Federation for the World Cup.

Since joining Utd from Everton for £29 million in 2013, the 30-year old has scored 20 goals in over 100 club appearances. So it makes sense that they are going after free agents with Stephan Lichtsteiner also linked.

The Times are among those reporting Fellaini is close to signing for Arsenal, despite persistent links with a move to AC Milan in recent months, with Arsenal fans serving up a mixed reaction to the news on social media.
