Chelsea owner Abramovich can return to London

Chelsea owner Abramovich can return to London

The clarification came after Mr Abramovich was granted citizenship in Israel after failing to renew his visa to Britain.

Abramovich returned to Russian Federation when his UK visa expired, meaning he could not be present to see Chelsea lift the FA Cup for the eighth time in the club's history with a 1-0 victory against Manchester United at Wembley last weekend.

Sources in Mr Abramovich's entourage told Russian and worldwide media earlier this month that Mr Abramovich's British visa had run out and his application for a new one was taking longer than usual.

"It is his right", Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

The Ynet website that belongs to Israel's biggest-selling daily, Yedioth Aharonoth, said Abramovich, who is Jewish, jetted into Tel Aviv on Monday and had received documents confirming his status as an Israeli citizen.

The Government said it would not comment on individual cases, but that visa applications from Russian Federation were dealt with "rigorously and properly".

The country's interior ministry confirmed Mr Abramovich had gained citizenship there, The Times of Israel reports, adding that he is now the country's richest man. "He filed a request to receive an immigration permit, his documents were checked according to the law of return, and he was indeed found eligible".

Israel's law of return gives every Jew, or child or grandchild of a Jew, the right to Israeli citizenship.

Britain is reviewing long-term Tier-1 investor visas of 700 wealthy Russians after the poisoning of former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter in March. Britain blamed Russian Federation but the Kremlin has denied any involvement. On Tuesday March 27, 2018, Prime Minister Theresa confirmed to the members of parliament that the United Kingdom government was conducting a review of all visas issued to the foreign investors.

Abramovich is believed to have returned to Moscow after his visa expired last month, and was noticeably absent from the FA Cup final which saw Chelsea beat Manchester United on 19 May.

Abramovich is a regular visitor to Israel and has also donated millions in order to aid Israeli research and development projects, as well as contributing towards investment in local firms.

The Sunday Times Rich List put Mr Abramovich's wealth at £9.3bn.
