Harvey Weinstein Indicted on Rape, Criminal Sex Act Charges

While awaiting the start of his rape trial in NY, on Friday Harvey Weinstein was served with his third class-action lawsuit from a group of his alleged victims.

Brafman and Spiro denied the allegations.

Following public revelations previous year about his predatory behaviour, Thompson said she was referred to lawyer Benjamin Brafman and another attorney at his firm, Alex Spiro.

After news broke of Weinstein's string of sexual accusers in October 2017, Thompson "was led to believe that Brafman and Spiro were representing victims against Weinstein", according to the plaintiffs' lawyers.

The incident wasn't reported to authorities, the lawsuit said, because Thompson "knew that Weinstein could and would destroy her if she complained about his sexual misconduct".

A second plaintiff says Weinstein sexually assaulted her in 1996 at the Cannes film festival in France, where at least two other women have said the director harassed them in the past.

Thompson said that during a 2011 meeting in his New York City office to pitch Weinstein on a new technology to market films he sexually assaulted her, twice reaching under her dress to caress her leg and pinning her to a refrigerator in the office's kitchen. "Weinstein held Thompson down and raped her. Thompson closed her eyes, traumatized, praying for the assault to end".

Almost 100 women have now accused Weinstein of crimes ranging from sexual harassment to assault and rape going back decades.

The attorney of the women is hoping to make the lawsuit a class-action suit to represent the other women who have accused Harvey of similar crimes.

The lawsuit reportedly names Weinstein, board members from his now-defunct production company and the Miramax film company as defendants.

The third woman, Larissa Gomes, says the former media mogul "chased her around the room" at a hotel in Toronto.

Thompson's lawsuit said she had audio and video evidence of the assault, but alleges she was tricked by Weinstein's defense attorney Ben Brafman into giving it to him.

Through her law firm, Thompson said she was comfortable with being named publicly.
