Ireland T20I: Team India aims winning start to English summer

The two teams have played just one T20I in the past, during 2009 T20 World Cup which India won by 15 runs.

Refreshed and rejuvenated after a much deserved break, India will look to start the English summer on a high when they take the field in the first of the two-match T20I series against Ireland here on Wednesday. If India win their matches against Ireland and England and other results go their way then they can get a major boost in the worldwide standings. Since the tour of South Africa, this is the first time a full-strength Indian team will be seen in action.

However, Ireland's might didn't prove to sufficient to defeat a team like India.

Riding on half-centuries from Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, India scored 208-5.

"We're going to give everyone a go in this series". A batting unit headlined by Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Suresh Raina, Manish Pandey, MS Dhoni, Dinesh Karthik and Manish Pandey is a formidable one in any part of the world. India would also not want to drop Dinesh Karthik, who is in sizzling form since March.

"We are using these two games (in Ireland) to play everyone, and I have already told them that the guys who didn't play will get an opportunity in the next game", said Kohli. It could mean that Pandey eventually warms the bench.

But he was the second of man-of-the-match Kuldeep Yadav's four wickets and, with fellow India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal taking three, Ireland were held to a total of 132 for nine in 20 overs. Umesh Yadav last played an ODI in September 2017 against Australia at Bengaluru.

Predicted playing XI: Kohli (c) Rohit, Dhawan, Rahul, Raina, Dhoni (wk), Pandya, Kuldeep, Chahal, Umesh, Kaul.

Ireland: Gary Wilson (c), Andrew Balbirnie, Peter Chase, George Dockrell, Joshua Little, Andy McBrine, Kevin O Brien, William Porterfield, Stuart Poynter, Boyd Rankin, James Shannon, Simi Singh, Paul Stirling, Stuart Thompson. "We can focus on playing with freedom and enjoying ourselves".
