Kushner rips Abbas, says Middle East peace plan due 'soon'

His comments came after he and Trump special envoy to the peace process Jason Greenblatt met with leaders in Israel, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, who he said supported the Palestinian people and could also benefit from a peace deal.

In the West Bank city of Ramallah, he is to hold talks with Abbas and also meet Palestinian refugees and young people.

Kushner's remarks to Al Quds, in what the paper billed as his first newspaper interview on the administration's Middle East initiative, highlighted the Trump administration's attempts to deliver a message directly to the Palestinian people, when their leaders have refused to meet with the US team. The negotiator doubled down on his criticism Sunday during an interview on Israeli television, saying the Washington negotiators were "not neutral" and predicting the U.S. plan would fail.

"The road to peace is clear - commitment to the two-state solution, a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital".

In the interview, Kushner again refused to go into details on his peace plan. Israeli-Palestinian negotiations stalled in 2014 over disputes that have deepened with bloodshed in Gaza and the USA recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

In the last several months, hostilities have surged as Palestinians find new ways of inflicting damage, including increased attempts to damage the border fence, vandalizing IDF equipment, and most recently, launching thousands of kites and balloons filled with incendiary devices as a way to inflict costly damages on Israeli land without putting themselves in danger.

Al-Hayat al-Jadida included in its main front page story on this subject Israeli violations in the occupied West Bank, such as army crackdown on the West Bank protests mainly in Kufr Qaddoum, near Qalqilya in the north of the West Bank, and Dheiehsh refugee camp in Bethlehem in the south.

He said the global community is "getting frustrated" with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas for failing to take "constructive [steps] toward achieving peace".

Abbas cut communications with the Trump administration after it recognised Jerusalem as the capital of Israel in December 2017. Over 120 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire. He made no mention of a Palestinian state arising alongside Israel.

The peace deal will be ready soon and will press on with or without the participation of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Xinhua quoted Kushner as saying in an interview with Palestinian newspaper Al Quds.

In the interview, Kushner noted that the Arab leaders "care a lot about the Palestinian people", and that "they want to see a Palestinian State with a capital in East Jerusalem".

"IAF aircraft targeted a wagon used by members of the Hamas terror organization to prepare arson and explosive balloons in the northern Gaza Strip with the intention of launching them into Israeli territory", the IDF Spokesperson said in a statement.

Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan said Thursday that Israel may be forced to launch a "large-scale military operation" in the Gaza Strip in response to continued launching of burning kites into Israel. Media and witnesses in Gaza said the injured were members of Hamas forces.
