Liverpool interested in acquiring Stoke City's Xherdan Shaqiri

Former Switzerland global and Liverpool defender Stephane Henchoz has urged countryman Xherdan Shaqiri to move to Anfield.

That's according to the Daily Telegraph, who suggest that the Reds' interest in the Swiss global - who is expected to leave the relegated Potters this summer - does not mean a bid is incoming. A wide attacker is a must for Liverpool this summer with next to no back-up for Sadio Mane and Mo Salah in the squad, which ultimately cost them in the Champions League Final when the Egyptian was forced off with an injury in the first half.

Liverpool were close to signing Shaqiri from Bayern in the summer of 2014 and were the player's preferred option at the time. And if players want to leave I will try and find the best solution to make that happen if that is the case'.

It is believed that the player has a relegation release clause in his Stoke contract.

"For Shaqiri, it would be the ideal move, to move to Liverpool".

The winger provided 8 goals and 7 assists last season but it wasn't enough to prevent Stoke from being relegated to the Championship having finished 19th in the Premier League last campaign.

Klopp is hoping to wrap up a deal for Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir in the coming weeks, but it remains to be seen if Liverpool can get a transfer across the line before the start of the World Cup next week.

The Switzerland worldwide, who will participate in this summer's World Cup, has played 92 times for Stoke, scoring 15 goals, while recording the same number of assists.
