Nabil Fekir: Liverpool close to £53m deal for Frenchman

According to the report, Liverpool and Lyon have reached an agreement for the transfer of the 24-year old attacker, with the Reds forking out €65million (£57.1million) to land their man, with an additional bonus of €7million to be paid.

BBC Sport have reported that the Reds are close to a deal worth £53 million, while Paul Joyce of the Times followed that up by revealing the breakdown would be £48.4m initially, with £4.4m in potential add-ons. Liverpool, however, continued to press ahead with negotiations and appear to have broken Aulas's resolve to keep the attacking midfielder until after the World Cup in the hope of starting an auction.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has a reputation for being a tough negotiator, and Friday is emerging as a key day in talks as Liverpool move to get the deal completed before the weekend.

Fekir will become the Reds' third summer signing following Monaco midfielder Fabinho's £43m move and Naby Keita's impending arrival from RB Leipzig.

The Swiss winger was part of the Stoke City side relegated last season and has been clear about his plans to exercise a relegation release clause written into his contract with the Potters.

Aulas' comments had cast doubt over the deal, with the notoriously hard 69-year-old telling Lyon's official website: "The record is at a standstill, there is no way forward. (We) have not set a base price because we have not discussed this yet".
