Prime Minister's address on 4th International Yoga Day

International Yoga Day will soon be held throughout the world.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose proposal for the global event won United Nations approval in 2014, will lead the way, performing his asanas with an expected 60,000 others in the northern town of Dehradun.

Millions of people all around the world observe International Yoga Day by attending yoga training sessions, seminars, retreats and workshops to further their knowledge of the ancient practice. The enthusiasm of getting from "illness to wellness" is spreading from the busy streets of the South Korean capital, Seoul, to the foot of Eiffel Tower in Paris. "Instead of increasing suffering, Yoga heals", the 67-year-old said. "We have been getting a very positive response from all communities and I am aware of several eminent Emirati friends who regularly practice yoga", he said.

Yoga became known in the West towards the end of the 19th century as it was undergoing a major revival in India under the Hindu teacher Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902).

Participants take part in a mass yoga event on the Champs de Mars in front of the Eiffel tower in Paris, June 17, 2018 in celebration of the upcoming International Yoga Day to be held on June 21.

Yoga was also performed on board the Japanese naval ship JS Ise and on the Indian Navy's INS Sahyadri taking part in military exercises in the western Pacific, the Indian Navy said.

Medical experts on Thursday spoke of the many benefits of yoga, as practitioners in Nigeria on Thursday joined others across the world to celebrate the International Day of Yoga.

"After only 4-6 months of doing yoga once a week, I was pleased to discover that numerous physical symptoms and pain had greatly subsided or disappeared", says Rola.

"Regular yoga practice creates mental clarity and calmness; increases body awareness; relieves chronic stress patterns; relaxes the mind; centres attention; and sharpens concentration". "Yoga should be a general recommendation as part of the rehabilitation therapy for drug addicts who seek a high by consuming unsafe substances, a high that yoga can give them by enhancing euphoric hormones", she said.

Addressing the gathering at Friday, he said, "In today's fast changing time, Yoga binds together a person's body, brain and soul, hence making one experience a feeling of peace".

Hey bro, fitness fads may come and go, but Yoga, it has stayed over 5000 years since it was conceived.

"The world has embraced yoga and glimpses of this can be seen in the manner in which International Day of Yoga has been marked every year", Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.
