Prime Minister's address on 4th International Yoga Day

International Yoga Day will soon be held throughout the world.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose proposal for the global event won United Nations approval in 2014, will lead the way, performing his asanas with an expected 60,000 others in the northern town of Dehradun.

Millions of people all around the world observe International Yoga Day by attending yoga training sessions, seminars, retreats and workshops to further their knowledge of the ancient practice. The enthusiasm of getting from "illness to wellness" is spreading from the busy streets of the South Korean capital, Seoul, to the foot of Eiffel Tower in Paris. "Instead of increasing suffering, Yoga heals", the 67-year-old said. "We have been getting a very positive response from all communities and I am aware of several eminent Emirati friends who regularly practice yoga", he said.

Yoga became known in the West towards the end of the 19th century as it was undergoing a major revival in India under the Hindu teacher Swami Vivekananda (1863-1902).

Medical experts on Thursday spoke of the many benefits of yoga, as practitioners in Nigeria on Thursday joined others across the world to celebrate the International Day of Yoga.

Addressing the gathering at Friday, he said, "In today's fast changing time, Yoga binds together a person's body, brain and soul, hence making one experience a feeling of peace".

Hey bro, fitness fads may come and go, but Yoga, it has stayed over 5000 years since it was conceived.

"The world has embraced yoga and glimpses of this can be seen in the manner in which International Day of Yoga has been marked every year", Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.
