Seth MacFarlane, other entertainers protest Fox News' immigration coverage

Fox News - which didn't immediately respond to requests for comment - is often criticized for its coverage, but the reverberations are rarely felt in the corridors of parent company 21st Century Fox.

Over the weekend, "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane (a CT native and Rhode Island School of Design alum) tweeted that he was "embarrassed" to work for Fox because of "fringe s***" that aired on Fox News.

Carlson on Monday said those speaking out against the issue don't care "about helping children".

"People don't want to deal with the fact that when you work for any part of Fox you are supporting a family which has made billions lying and manipulating our citizens for their personal financial gain", Apatow tweeted Tuesday morning. Laura Ingraham on Monday described the detention centres being used to house the separated children "as essentially summer camps". "We are thankful to all who support quality, independent journalism", the statement reads. "I too can not condone the support their news division promotes toward the immoral and abusive policies and actions taken by this current administration toward immigrant children". With MacFarlane, Paul Feig, and Judd Apatow also showing their distaste, this could screw up Fox's film and television slate in the coming months.

More news: President Trump Orders Creation of 'Space Force'

Levitan's disdain for Fox News runs deeper, as he said the network's "23-hour-a day support for the NRA, conspiracy theories and [President] Trump's lies gets harder to swallow every day as I drive onto that lot to make a show about inclusion".

Fox News regularly comes under attack for its news coverage, but criticism rarely makes its way back to 21st Century Fox.

Paul Feig, the producer behind Bridesmaids and the Ghostbusters reboot, who has made two films for the 20th Century Fox movie studio, wrote: "I too can not condone the support their news division promotes toward the immoral and abusive policies and actions taken by this current administration toward immigrant children".

Given the growing outcry against Trump's ongoing policy, and Fox News's steadfast desire to stand by the president, one can only assume that this is only the beginning of a mounting entertainment-industry backlash against Fox - and the leader it supports. The parent company is also in the midst of selling off a large chunk of its entertainment assets, which have received bids from Disney and Comcast.
