Spain Star Hits Out At Carlos Queiroz's Iran

Iran equalized the match in the 64th minute but Saeid Ezatolahi's goal was disallowed after VAR rueled it offside.

Here, we take a closer look at his performance in-depth as Spain and Portugal go one and two in the Group B standings.

Special RT World Cup host Peter Schmeichel has given his expert analysis on a highly-charged encounter between Spain and Iran at Kazan Arena, which was decided by a dubious Diego Costa goal. He found Iniesta with a cute pass which eventually led to the winning goal. A draw against Morocco will be enough to take them into the last 16, while Iran - who performed brilliantly - must now beat Portugal to progress.

Iran played toe-to-toe with Spain and deserved more from the match, but Spain's central defense made some important stops, got the victor in the second half and held on to move into a tie for first place with Portugal in Group B.

Dani Carvajal described Iran's tactics as "disloyal" even though Spain recorded their first World Cup win.

"We went after the game that bit more in the second half".

Tonight's clash with Iran didn't provide the same fireworks, with the first half ending in a stalemate.

While Spain is perhaps the world's tactical clinicians, the Iranians have become a tactical fortress capable of stymying opponents like few others have in recent memory.

Iran fans all but tore their hair out late on when Vahid Amiri brilliantly nutmegged a defender to send a cross into Mehdi Taremi, but the forward sent a very gettable header from six yards out sailing over.

Nothing to worry about, it's only the World Cup. Iran won its opener against Morocco 1-0.

"God helped me to play well but unfortunately we couldn't score, the goal didn't count".

Upon consultation with the Video Assistant Referee, however, the strike was chalked off for offside, putting an abrupt end to the Iranian celebrations. Said Queiroz: "We deserved a better result".

Iran had relied nearly entirely on their steely defence to keep them in the match for the first 54 minutes and it was only after the ball had deflected off Costa's knee and into the net that they took the game to the Spanish.
