3rd Thai cave rescue mission underway

3rd Thai cave rescue mission underway

All 12 boys and their soccer coach trapped for more than two weeks deep inside a flood Thai cave have been rescued, a Thai navy SEAL unit said on Tuesday, a successful end to a perilous mission that has gripped the world.

The boys will remain in quarantine because of a fear of infection, and it's understood they have only been able to speak to family members through a window.

19 divers are involved in the mission to bring the last four boys and their coach to safety, and more will enter gradually through the day.

The Thai soccer team ventured into the Tham Luang cave complex after practice and became trapped by rising waters more than a fortnight ago.

The first four boys, ages 14-16, had low body temperatures and two were diagnosed with lung infections, Jesada Chokdamrongsuk, Thailand's permanent secretary for health, told reporters at Chiang Rai Prachanukroh Hospital, according to the Bangkok Post.

Writing in elegant Thai script, the boys urged their parents not to worry, adding that they hoped they wouldn't get too much homework after being rescued and couldn't wait to eat their favorite foods again.

Each of the rescued boys has been guided through the dark winding cave by two pairs of divers.

Last night, Mr Osottanakorn did not confirm that all five of the trapped group could be rescued today, suggesting that 25-year-old coach Ekaphol Chantawong could face a night alone in the cave.

While the eyes of the world have been focused on the Thai soccer team being rescued in a cave, entrepreneur Elon Musk has been hatching a plan.

When asked about his first reaction as he saw the first set of boys who were rescued he admitted that he was "very scared".

Four boys were rescued from the underground caves on Sunday, bringing the total number of recovered children to eight.

"Early this morning Harry's father passed away here in Adelaide. after they had all come out of the cave", said Dr Andrew Pearce, of rescue service MedStar in the Australian city, where Dr Harris, also known as Harry, is a specialist.

Rescued schoolboys are moved from a military helicopter to an awaiting ambulance at a military airport in Chiang Rai, Thailand, July 9, 2018. Musk said the submarine is expected to arrive in Thailand around 11 p.m. Monday, local time. We always knew they would be alive.

Fresh rains on Tuesday added urgency to the final stages of the treacherous rescue bid, several kilometres inside a mountain and through flooded, tight corridors. He said he left the equipment there in case rescuers could use it in the future.
