Billy Dee Williams Returning as Lando Calrissian in Star Wars: Episode IX

Williams has been steadily working in film and TV for decades, appearing in the TV remake of "Dirty Dancing" past year and providing voices for recent "Star Wars" video games and "The LEGO Batman Movie".

Production on the film is slated to begin later this summer, and rumors pertaining to Williams joining the cast circulated when he dropped out of an upcoming sci-fi/pop culture convention due to it conflicting with a movie schedule.

Donald Glover recently played a younger version of Calrissian in this year's Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Williams's most recent film was 2017's The Lego Batman Movie, where he voiced Harvey Dent, the lawyer who becomes supervillain Two-Face - a character he had previously played in Tim Burton's live-action Batman (1989). And in light of Han and Luke's tragic endings (and the devastating loss of Carrie Fisher), Williams is the only old guard left standing (fingers crossed for that Admiral Ackbar spin-off). Oh, just some confirmation that Billy Dee Williams is indeed returning to a galaxy far, far away.

Episode IX is set to feature new stars John Boyega, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac and Domhnall Gleeson, among others reprising their roles from the franchise's latest set of films.

Are you stoked to see Billy Dee Williams finally make a comeback as Lando Calrissian in the upcoming Episode IX? Episode IX opens on December 20, 2019.

For those unfamiliar, Lando appeared first in the 1980 movie "Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back" in Cloud City.
