Carmelo Anthony traded from Thunder to Atlanta Hawks

The Oklahoma City Thunder have agreed to a deal that will send Carmelo Anthony to the Atlanta Hawks, but the star forward won't be spending any time with his new team.

Anthony will be waived and the Houston Rockets will be the frontrunner.

Chris Vivlamore of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the 76ers will also be part of the deal and will receive Mike Muscala from the Hawks. If the Thunder used the stretch provision on Anthony, they would have $9 million remaining over the next three years. In order to make that happen, the team needed to sweeten the pot with a protected first-round pick that's ultimately the real return for the Hawks in this trade.

Anthony is expected to be bought out by the Hawks. But the Thunder have gotten little production out of their backup point guards in the Russell Westbrook era, and Schroder certainly has the talent to become a threat off the bench.

"Oklahoma City was able to accomplish two things by trading Carmelo Anthony to Atlanta, improve the roster while saving $73M this season".

Anderson is joining his third team in four seasons.

Last season: Played in 52 games, starting seven, for the Sixers, averaging 5.8 points and 1.4 rebounds.

Muscala, who is not expected to remain with the Thunder, has also played all five seasons of his National Basketball Association career with Atlanta, and averaged 7.6 points and 4.3 rebounds a game last season.

Schroder joins the Thunder after five seasons in Atlanta. But it was clear that the top priorities were getting Schroder out of the mix and picking up a decent draft pick, both of which they did.
