CBS Board to Discuss Sexual Harassment Allegations Against CEO Les Moonves

Six women said Moonves sexually harassed them between the 1980s and late 2000s, according to a report in the New Yorker by Ronan Farrow, who earned a Pulitzer Prize previous year for his reporting on allegations against the disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein. CBS announced on Friday the network would launch a probe into the matter and vowed to swiftly "review the findings and take appropriate action".

According to a source, the board also could reschedule that annual meeting, which is becoming increasingly important in light of these allegations. There have also been calls for Moonves to step aside from his role at the company while the matter is looked into.

In the report, actress Illeana Douglas detailed her allegation that Moonves held her down on a couch and tried to kiss her when she was working on the CBS comedy pilot "Queens" in 1997.

A board meeting that ran about three hours was held by teleconference Monday, three days after the report by journalist Ronan Farrow detailing accusations of sexual misconduct by six women, some stretching back to the 1980s.

In a statement to The New Yorker that was also obtained by CNN, Moonves said he has "promoted a culture of respect and opportunity for all employees" throughout his tenure at CBS. Those were mistakes, and I regret them immensely.

Moonves said in a statement that he has always abided by the principle that "no means no" and he denies ever misusing his position to harm anyone's career.

Additionally, the board postponed its annual shareholders meeting, which was scheduled for August 10.

CBS shares fell 5% in trading Monday amid the fallout from the New Yorker expose and speculation that Moonves' days at the helm are numbered.

The CBS board includes one director who-apart from The New Yorker bombshell-has an especially tense relationship with Moonves: Shari Redstone, whose father Sumner Redstone serves as chairman emeritus. Redstone and Moonves are fighting in court over control of CBS, particularly regarding a plan from Redstone to re-combine it with Viacom, which Moonves opposes unless he is given control of the united company.
