Cesc Fabregas 'accidentally' celebrates Antonio Conte's Chelsea dismissal

Cesc Fabregas 'accidentally' celebrates Antonio Conte's Chelsea dismissal

Former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri will replace his fellow Italian, with Blues legend Gianfranco Zola returning to west London as an assistant coach and midfielder Jorginho also set to sign.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte watches Champions League football slip away at the end of last season.

That success was helped by prolific striker Diego Costa, who scored 20 goals and provided eight assists.

Fabregas appeared to confirm he felt that way by liking a tweet which was celebrating the news that Conte had been sacked by the club.

The Blues had previously been in talks with Napoli over a compensation package and the Serie A giants' president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, said on Wednesday: "Sarri is close to being the new Chelsea manager".

Former Chelsea captain John Terry has paid tribute to Antonio Conte after his sacking.

Fabregas played under Conte and won the Premier League and FA Cup with the head coach in the last two years.

It was a great contrast to his first year in England, when he took Chelsea from a tenth place finish the previous season, to the title in dominant fashion.

Relations between Conte and the Chelsea hierarchy had always been hard but deteriorated markedly over a hard second season with regular disagreements over transfer policy. He still has three years left on his contract in Naples, and at 27, he is at his prime, and if the Jorginho sale does go through, they won't exactly be desperate to bring a bit more money in. He was eventually replaced by Carlo Ancelotti on May 23 after speculation that Sarri's buyout clause would be activated by another club.

One player that Sarri hasn't worked with but who has been linked with a move to Chelsea is Russian star Alexandr Golovin off the back of an excellent European campaign last season followed by an exceptional World Cup for the hosts.

Jorginho was a crucial part of that system in the heart of the midfield.
