Coast Guard searching for cruise ship crew member reported overboard near Cuba

The unidentified crew member was found Sunday by the Carnival Glory and is in stable condition.

"The Jayhawk crew located the sailing vessel, hoisted Petersen and transported him to Providenciales, Turks and Caicos with no reported injuries".

The U.S. Coast Guard dispatched its seaplane at 3:20 p.m.to search the waters 28 miles northwest of Cuba's Pinar del Rio after a 33-year-old Filipino was seen going overboard.

A Coast Guard search for the crew member began about 10 minutes later, eventually covering 1,630 square miles, to no avail. With no good news and now as the 24 hours period approaches the search could be called off.

The Getaway left Miami last Sunday, June 24th, for a one week cruise which included ports in Mexico, Belize and Honduras.

Norwegian Getaway is now based out of Port Miami. Some passengers have stated on social media that the crew member went overboard late at night (around 1:00 A.M.) or early this morning (3-4 A.M.).

Our thoughts go out to the crew members family and friends during this very hard time.
