Cormier flattens UFC heavyweight Miocic

Stipe Miocic's two-plus year reign as UFC heavyweight champion ended July 7 in the main event at UFC 226 at a sold-out T-Mobile Arena thanks to an upset victory by Daniel Cormier, who became the second ever dual-champion in UFC history.

"I went and fought the baddest man on the planet, a great guy, a great champion - a guy that does everything the right way, and I won", Cormier continued, celebrating his defeat of Miocic.

Afterwards, UFC President Dana White confirmed he intends for Cormier's next fight to be a defence of his heavyweight title against Lesnar. Right when he got to my seat to the side, he was acting like a lunatic.

Cormier became the second fighter in UFC history to hold two championship belts simultaneously. "I'm a two-division champion, baby!" Miocic was the more technical boxer. "I'll do fake fighting with you until I put my fist upside of your face". "I spent all camp knocking out my training partners, and today I got to do it in the octagon".

"They've known each other a long time with the whole wrestling thing", White said. "Now you know he's back". "Your day is in the past; 2010 is like the stone age".

Following the fight, Cormier revealed he and his team knew what Miocic did during the clinch, and it's something they capitalised on.

It was pure pro wrestling promotion, but it starts the hype ahead of a potential matchup between the pair, with rumours circulating that they will meet at UFC 230 at Madison Square Garden in NY on 3 November.

"I think his ego ran away with him, big-time", White said.

"I walked in the building and watched the heavyweight disaster from the beginning", Lesnar said.

The crowd roared as the former heavyweight champ made his way to the cage and shoved history-maker Cormier, security and Joe Rogan restraining the Beast Incarnate from getting even more physical with the two-weight champion. He just saw an opportunity to ignite a potential big-money fight.

The preliminary card saw a host of decision wins, but there were standout stoppage wins for lightweight Dan "The Hangman" Hooker and middleweight Paulo "The Eraser" Costa.
