Defending champ Chestnut sets record with 74 hot dogs

Joey chowed down on a staggering 74 hot dogs in just 10 minutes, creating a new world record.

Eager to continue his dominance in the competition, Chestnut displayed a jaw-breaking eating endurance as he quickened the tempo by eating seven hot dogs in a minute.

According to Nathan's, the men's competition will re-air on ESPN2 at 4 p.m. and again at 7:30 p.m. EST, just in case you don't miss all the action the first time.

Him smashing hot dog after hot dog is a sight to behold. Contest rules stipulate that both the bun and the frankfurter must be consumed in order to get the point.

Among the ladies, Miki Sudo walked away with the trophy after eating 37 hot dogs in 10 minutes.

Judges at the Nathan's Hot Dog eating contest might be replaced by a digital system, ESPN reported Thursday, after a drastic miscount at the annual Coney Island event Wednesday caused an uproar.

Its that time of year: Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest in New York's Coney Island is back. According to Major League Eating, the body that oversees professional eating contests, Chestnut once ate almost 13 pounds of deep-fried asparagus in 10 minutes and 55 glazed donuts in the same amount of time. And it wasn't even that close: Chestnut ate ten more dogs than Carmen Cincotti, who finished in second. That's less than the 41 she ate in the 2017 contest, where she also placed first.

Who knew eating hot dogs could be an extreme sport?! She beat out 19 other women, including record-holder Sonya Thomas.

Eric Gonzalez, the Brooklyn district attorney, certified the final tally and Chestnut's record of 74, two more than he consumed previous year. The Macy's spectacular takes place in New York City and some of the performers included in this year's event are Kelly Clarkson, Keith Urban, Blake Shelton and the American Authors.

The Fourth of July is here and so is Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest where grown men and women enjoy eating as many hot dogs as they can.
