India defeated England by seven wickets in a thrilling third and final T20 at Bristol to claim the three-match series 2-1.

Sharma became only the second Indian to pass 2,000 runs in this format as India chased down their target of 199 with eight balls and seven wickets to spare.

The onslaught was led by openers Jason Roy (67) and wicketkeeper Jos Buttler (34), who shared a 94-run opening partnership in 7.5 overs, coupled by poor bowling from the Indian bowlers, who were guilty of bowling either too full or short.

India's squad for T20I series against England: Virat Kohli (C), Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Lokesh Rahul, Suresh Raina, Manish Pandey, MS Dhoni (WK), Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Siddarth Kaul, and Umesh Yadav.

But Rohit continued to flay the ball all around the ground with a mixture of raw power and sweet timing, finishing on 100 not out before leaving the field to a standing ovation.

Riding on Alex Hales and Jonny Bairstow's innings, England managed to surpass India's 148 in the last over of the match.

Alex Hales-powered England shocked the Indian team in the second T20I to level the series 1-1. If England win this match, Kohli and Shastri will have to ask some hard questions.

Rohit, in the next over, completed his hundred by dabbing the ball towards backward point while Pandya hit Jordan for a six to guide India over the line. Once we see off the new ball, we always knew wicket was a good one with short boundaries.

Asked if the conversation with Root is among the toughest he has had as captain, Morgan said: "Yes".

A six brought up Roy's half-century from 23 balls - the joint second quickest for England in T20s - and the hosts looked set for a total in excess of 200.

India has played the first match well. Pacer Deepak Chahar, who was handed his first global T20I cap, went for plenty of runs but was instrumental in claiming Roy's wicket.

"They kept up with the rate, and then it was a position in the 16th or 17th over they could take the game away from us - which is disappointing".

Captain Kohli said: "The comeback from the bowlers was outstanding - I thought they would end up getting 225 or 230 which would have been tough". The character they showed is something we are really proud of.

Thus, with a series decider on the cards, the Indian team would be looking forward to churning out the best possible XI for the third T20I match.

"It was a brutal day for the bowlers". We had to make the batsmen feel like they would make mistakes.

"On a good wicket, small ground, we should be better than that".
