Family chooses unique way to say goodbye to son

A family of a teenager killed in a shooting in the Florida area of New Orleans last month honored him at his wake with some of his favorite activities.

Renard Matthews died in a shooting June 25 near North Tonti and Independence streets.

Matthews' family was understandably shocked by the news of their son's death, but remembered him a fitting way. He also donned socks brandishing the likeness of Kyrie Irving, the Celtics player that wears the number 11 shirt, the same that Matthews wore.

According to New Orleans station, WNGO, Matthew's mother said that her son was "a bit of a homebody" and had only recently begun to get out of the house more in order to walk the family's new dog.

Relatives sent NBC affiliate WDSU a photo of Matthews' body at the wake at the Charbonnet Labat Glapion Funeral Home in Treme.

Although it's not stated explicitly, he's likely "playing" a version of National Basketball Association 2K based on the above video which included a shot of the television screen. His favorite snacks, cereal, Barq's Root Beer and Doritos were placed on a side table next to him.
