Matt Cappotelli, WWE Star and ‘Tough Enough’ Winner, Dies at 38

Cappotelli arrived on WWE's radar in 2002 when he competed on the third season of Though Enough, a reality-based competition series that has produced the likes of John Hennigan (Morrison/Mundo/Impact), Ryback, The Miz, and most recently Sonya Deville, Mandy Rose and Velveteen Dream.

Lindsay shared last month that doctors had advised that Matt discontinued treatment, writing on her blog: 'It's hard to know how he feels about discontinuing treatment, because he can't communicate in full sentences most of the time. The only person whose comfort I want right now is the one who can't give it to me.

Sadly, his wife Lindsay has now announced that Matt passed away at 3.30am on 29 June.

Cappotelli's wife, Lindsay, had been keeping fans updated about his health on Facebook and announced on Friday that the former WWE star had died.

"I miss him so much", she continued.

Former WWE Tough Enough victor Matt Cappotelli died Friday after a battle with brain cancer. After winning TE3, he made several appearances on Monday Night Raw and went on work with developing talent in Ohio Valley Wrestling, but his battle with brain cancer forced the Louisville, KY resident to retire professionally as a wrestler in 2007. Moss was a 28 year old Christian father of three when he entered OVW's beginner's program and wasn't sure he'd fit in until meeting his trainer Matt Cappotelli.

Cappotelli was first diagnosed with brain cancer in 2006. In addition, Cappotelli's cancer was found to be terminal, with only about 5 percent of patients surviving another five years after diagnosis. Matt inspired everyone around him especially me early in my career. Cappotelli helped Moss find his place as both a wrestler and a Christian. "He is loved and will be missed", Morrison tweeted.
