Dusk/Dawn - Avoid dusk and dawn activities during the summer when mosquitoes are most active. The number of mosquitoes collected will serve to quantify the adult population and provide specimens to be submitted for retesting at Louisiana Animal Disease Diagnostic Lab.

Dress - Wear loose-fitting, long sleeved shirts and trousers to reduce the amount of exposed skin. Those who become ill may have some combination of fever, headache, body aches, skin rash, and swollen lymph glands, specialists say.

Doors - Make sure doors and windows are in good repair and fit tightly, and fix torn or damaged screens to keep mosquitoes out of the house.

REPEL: When outdoors, wear shoes and socks, long trousers and a long-sleeved shirt, and apply insect repellent that contains DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus or IR 3535, according to label instructions. Severe cases of EEE begin with the sudden onset of headache, high fever, chills and vomiting.

West Nile Virus can be very serious for people with compromised immune systems, the elderly and the very young.
