Parkland Mass Shooting Survivors' Dad Killed in Robbery of His Convenience Store

Students who survived the attack ignited a nationwide effort to end school shootings.

Tyrone Fields faces charges of first-degree murder and armed robbery.

Ali, 61, was the breadwinner of his family and a father to four children, including two who attended Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, the site of a February mass shooting that left 17 dead.

Ali, 61, was restocking shelves at Aunt Molly's Food Store in North Lauderdale, Fla., when a man with a gun walked in around 12:40 p.m and lingered in the aisles.

He said it was just a week ago that he told Ali to be careful when working by himself at the store, saying he shouldn't trust anyone. Ali can be seen putting his hands up and seemingly being forced to open the cash register.

Ali was taken to Broward health medical center where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators with the Broward County Sheriff's Department in Florida have pinpointed this man as the prime suspect in the convenience store shooting death.

A family friend said that during a gathering at the Ali family house Wednesday night, Ali's youngest child - a 22-month-old boy - was walking around the home asking for his father. He worked long hours at convenience stores, shoe stores and dollar stores to save up for a shop of his own, Mustaque said.

"Following the release of the video, Broward detectives and Broward Crime Stoppers received a number of tips", the sheriff's office said in a statement.

Ali's store reopened Thursday with memorials placed outside by loyal customers, NBC 6 reports.

Ironically, it was Parkland's supposed safety that prompted Ayub Ali to move his wife and children to the community, Parkland survivor Elama Ali told CNN.
